THE CALIFORNIA BOWLING WRITERS AND OPERATION FREEDOM PAWS

THE TEAMWORK THAT STARTED THE TOURNAMENT

This event started through the collaboration of two women, Donna Morales of the California Bowling Writers (CBW) and Mary Cortani, the founder and Executive Director of OFP. Both passionate bowlers, they decided to bring their organizations together in order to help more Veterans and other individuals with disabilities. In 2018, the California Bowling Writers designated Operation Freedom Paws as the charity they wanted to support during their annual charity drive each year, and since then, except for COVID 2020, OFP and CBW have held 3 successful tournaments that have raised thousands of dollars to benefit OFP's mission.

While the California Bowling Writers is retiring their organization this year, OFP is continuing the tradition of the Annual Bowling Event that was launched with CBW in 2018. Many members of the California Bowling Writers, like Donna Morales, will continue to remain involved and help support the event. Thank you to our friends at California Bowling Writers for all you have done to save two lives, one team at a time.

OPERATION FREEDOM PAWS

Operation Freedom Paws (OFP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides service dogs, mental health counseling, and additional vital resources to veterans, first responders, and other individuals who suffer with physical, psychological, and neurological conditions including post-traumatic stress syndrome. These individuals are carefully matched with four-legged healers by an experienced team with decades of experience led by Army Veteran and Master Canine Trainer, Mary Cortani.

The majority of OFP service dogs are pulled from rescues and shelters to become highly trained and loved lifelines. Veterans and other individuals with disabilities are mentored through OFP's 48-week program where they learn how to train their service dog to support their specific disability. At the end of the program, OFP clients and their dogs are certified together as service dog teams. Service dogs enable individuals to heal wounds both seen and unseen, so they can reengage in their lives, families, and communities. To date, Operation Freedom Paws has proudly served 500 clients and their families at no cost to them. The cost to put a client and their family through the program is 20K, which includes all the program resources for  clients and their families. Events are a vital tool in raising funds to welcome new teams into the program. Thank you for helping us to save lives at both ends of the leash.
